Artifact #1: Impact of Homework on Grades
For a ticket out, students were asked to write down what they liked and what they did not like about class on a half sheet of paper. The examples on the right show student concerns in regards to homework and grades.
Student feedback made me interested in taking a closer look at my use of homework in the classroom. Literature readings also made me consider alternative options to graded homework. Using the raw grades collected from SchoolNet, the school's online grading system, I calculated the grades for my 29 students including and excluding homework (Artifact 1b). |

After graphing my quantitative data (Artifact 1d), I realized that it was difficult to draw any conclusions by examining the graph alone. I created Artifact 1c which shows my tallies for how students' grades changed without a homework grade (increase, decrease, stay the same). Whole numbers are used to reflect the grades that the school district gives students.
